The winner of the Emmy in 2017 by This is Us and co-star of Black Panther, will receive the NAB Television Chairman's Award during the NAB: We Are Broadcasters Celebration, next April 9 at the American Las Vegas Convention Center.
Sterling Brown with his Emmy for 'This Is Us'
Sterling K. Brown is one of the protagonists of the series This Is Us, for which he received an Emmy and a Golden Globe, becoming the first African-American actor to receive the award for best in a television series in the 75-year history of the Golden Globes. Brown was also the first African-American actor to receive the SAG Award for best male actor in a drama, and he was twice awarded a SAG award along with the cast for the whole performance.
In 2018, Brown co-starred in the box office hit of Marvel Black Panther, an Oscar nominee. This year he will star in four films: Angry Birds 2 by Sony, The Rhythm Section by Paramount, Frozen 2 by Disney and Waves by A24.
Brown's resume also highlights his performance as prosecutor Christopher Darden in the award-winning series The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, performance that earned him an Emmy or the Critics Choice award, among other awards and nominations. He previously starred in the acclaimed Lifetime Army Wives series. His other television appearances include Saturday Night Live, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Insecure, Supernatural and Criminal Minds, among others.
"Sterling Brown is an extraordinarily talented actor who continues to break down barriers with the variety of characters he plays both on television and on the big screen," said Jordan Wertlieb, president of the NAB Television Board. "We are delighted to give him this award, both for his profession and his ability to connect with audiences of all kinds."
Established to recognize people for their significant achievements in one or more specific television disciplines, the Television Chairman's Award was presented for the first time in 2009 to Kelsey Grammar, winner of four Emmy's and two Golden Globes. Jim Parsons, star of the acclaimed CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory, actress and producer Tracee Ellis Ross or actress Kristin Bell, have been some of the personalities who have also received this award.
Organized by The National Association of Broadcasters, NAB is the professional trade fair for technology and services manufacturers for the most important broadcasting of the international scene held in Las Vegas, Nevada, every year. On this occasion it will take place between the next 6th and 11th of April.
